Project Drishti’s eye camps are usually held in pre-designated areas. All eye camps are preceded by days of relentless publicity and IEC sessions.
A team from Project Drishti comprising Ophthalmologists and Optometrists undertake the screening of the patients. Those with cataract are transported to the base hospital for surgery. A typical Day One of the eye camp revolves around routine examination of patients that is undertaken while the surgeries take place on Day Two. These surgeries are performed using the latest state-of-the-art equipment. On Day Three, the patients are escorted back to their homes. During the course of their stay at the hospital, patients are provided food and accommodation free of cost. On an average 500 patients are screened at every camp organized and 50 patients undergo surgeries each day.
