Patient: What is LASIK?
Consultant: LASIK is an outpatient procedure that uses a cool (UV light) laser beam to gently reshape the surface of the cornea. It is a painless procedure as it causes little or no discomfort at all besides improving vision. The beam gently pulses to remove a microscopic amount of tissue, allowing images to be more sharply focused on the retina.

Patient: Who is eligible for LASIK?
Consultant: Anyone who meets the following criteria:
- Should be 18 years of age and above.
- Should have a stable spectacle power for at least six months.
- Should not have associated eye ailments such as cataracts, glaucoma, or experience dryness of    the eyes.
- Should not be pregnant or nursing a baby.
- Should not have signs of corneal diseases.
- Should not have auto-immune or immunodeficiency disease.
- Should not have previous history of corneal injury or scar near the corneal center.

Patient: Is LASIK surgery right for me?
Consultant: It is simple. Ask our consultants. After a detailed discussion, a range of tests will be performed. These include:
- Thorough eye examination
- Pachymetry
- Corneal topography
- Retinal examination

Patient: How long do I need to forego my contact lenses?
Consultant: Soft contact lenses user: 1-2 weeks
Rigid contact lenses user: 3-4 weeks

Patient: How long does the LASIK procedure take?

Consultant: Ablation time with ALLEGRETTO EYE-Q is between 20-40 seconds. This is almost ¼ of the time conventional lasers take. The entire procedure performed in the laser suite takes an estimated time of 3-4 minutes per eye. However, you should schedule your time at M-Lasik Laser Center for one to two hours for treatment and post-operative monitoring.

Patient: Will the procedure hurt?
Consultant: The LASIK procedure causes little or no discomfort. Anesthetic drops are used to numb the eyes just before the surgery.
After a LASIK procedure, the eyes may feel some minor irritation for a few hours, but they should be quite comfortable after taking a nap. Dryness of the eyes can be expected. Incase of the same, eye drops are prescribed.

Patient: What results can I expect?
Consultant: LASIK has safely improved the vision of people the world over. With Wave front guided technology the procedure is safer and more effective than ever. Studies indicate that over 99% of patients who have had correction vision correction surgery are able to pass a standard vision test of 6/12 or better without corrective lenses.

Patient: Are there any risks or side effects associated with LASIK?
Consultant: Certainly! As with any other surgical procedure, laser vision correction also involves a certain degree of risks. However, results of clinical studies indicate that the chances of having a vision – reducing complications are less than 1 percent. So far, there has not been any reported case of eye blindness resulting from LASIK worldwide.

Patient: Is the effect of LASIK treatment permanent?
Consultant: Yes, following the initial healing period of three to six months, the effect of the treatment is life-long. Only on rare occasions a minimal regression might occur following the procedure. These can be corrected through enhancement (second procedure) if the consultant feels that the patient stand to benefit.

Patient: How soon can I return to my daily routine?
Consultant: The duration varies from patient to patient. Some people go back to their daily routine within a day or two after treatment. However, two days is ideally suggested. Also, patients are advised to have a good rest post operation. This will help them minimize the chances of blinking and eyes get to rest.

Patient: What are the payment options available?

Patient: What is EPI LASIK?
Consultant: EPI is a modified form of PRK treatment where in patients who are not eligible for normal LASIK get treatment. M-Lasik Laser Centre provides this facility.
